is so colossally flawed that it causes me pain. Students are turned into numbers and defined exclusively by arbitrary test scores. We are expected to spend hours a night struggling to learn subject matter that teachers are too lazy to teach. We cheat because grades are held to a much higher level of importance than learning. Performance is valued instead of personal growth.
And this drives us students, told endlessly that we will never succeed unless we go through years of stress and mental trauma, to work to the point of self harm. Sleep deprived, malnourished, emotionally unstable, we strive for a meaningless piece of paper that guarantee us literally nothing in the world. College degrees don’t mean a job or a house or a good life.
I am so tired. I am so stressed. I am so overwhelmed. This is not learning. This is education, and it is not how you inspire young adults. It is how you beat them into submission.Posted 2 hours ago with 1 note | reblog
